New trademark law in Myanmar
A new trademark law will be implemented in 2020 in Myanmar, which will bring major changes to its trademark practices. The new trademark registry in Yangon and Naypyidaw will likely begin operating in a couple of weeks for a soft opening, while the official opening is planned for mid-2020. The exact dates are yet to be confirmed. It is critical that proper actions are taken by trademark owners for a smooth transition period.
142nd Annual Meeting of INTA in Singapore in April 2020
For the second time, the annual meeting of the International Trademark Association (INTA) will be held in Asia, after Hong Kong in 2014. Malaysia will become a member of the Madrid Protocol and local brand owners will then have the opportunity to file international applications designating up to 121 territories from 27th December 2019.
